Born in 1976 these gourmet flavored jelly beans soared to popularity in 1981 when Ronald Reagan became President. The world learned of his love of Jelly Bellys, and the candies were always available in the Oval Office and on Air Force One where red, white and blue Jelly Bellys were offered to diplomats and world leaders.

And yet another claim to fame for Jelly Bellys is that they were the first jelly bean candy to enter outer space joining the first American female astronaut, Sally Ride! In 1983 as a presidential candy treat to the space shuttle Challenger astronauts, the weightless, free floating jelly beans were a big surprise.
